About Me

I work with both couples and individuals to help you create positive change in your intimate relationships. I am COSRT and BACP registered and committed to lifelong learning.

I regularly update my skills and knowledge through continuous professional development and further qualifications. This offers you a combination of the newest contemporary thinking in the specialism as well as highly effective traditional models. I am trained in an integrative way that allows us to work in different ways depending on what you bring to the session. In addition, if you are struggling with an issue in your relationship but also have a sexual problem my practice can offer a one-stop-shop so you can have continuity with the same therapist for both.

Couples & Relationship Therapy

Do you feel you would like your relationship to be in a better place? Perhaps you're going through a life transition such as becoming parents, or you're raising a family and you'd love to find that spark between you as a couple again. Have you noticed a distance between you, and that you miss the closeness and intimacy you once shared? Maybe your relationship has reached a crisis point such as an affair and you're looking to help your relationship heal. Perhaps communication has become an issue, leaving you feeling that your true needs aren't being met and you would like to understand each other better. I often hear clients say to their partner in therapy, "I've never heard you say that before now".

I can offer a safe and inclusive space for you to explore and process issues that are going on for you in your relationship. I work with both couples and individuals for long-term or short-term Couples Therapy and Individual Therapy. Together we can explore your relationship dynamics and I can help you to find positive change.

Psychosexual Therapy

If you would like to work on a sexual difficulty, I also offer Psychosexual Therapy for both couples and individuals. This is a specialised form of clinical talking therapy which never involves touch from a therapist, and instead works on talking through the biological, psychological and social impacts of sexual problems.

It can help with issues such as:

  • Pain during sex
  • Differences in desire
  • Low desire
  • Vaginismus
  • Vulvodynia
  • Difficulties with arousal or orgasm
  • Effects of the menopause
  • Erectile issues
  • Premature or delayed ejaculation
  • The impact of sexual abuse

Compulsive Sexual Behaviour Therapy

Do you feel like your sexual behaviours are out of your control? Or that your partners sexual behaviours are out of their control? Is this impacting your life, relationships, work, or how you feel about yourself? Or do you feel that your pornography use has become problematic, or your partner's use of pornography has become problematic and this is impacting you? You may have heard the terms sex addiction or porn addiction - I offer an effective way of working that treats compulsivity rather than thinking of this behaviour as an addiction. I also offer a space to partners to process and heal from the discovery or disclosure of compulsive sexual behaviours in their relationship.

I am currently adding a specialism of Compulsive Sexual Behaviours therapy to my established Psychosexual and Relationship Therapy Practice for both individuals and for partners. If this is an issue you would like to work on, please get in touch to work though this in a safe, non-shaming, and inclusive way.

In addition to providing face-to-face therapy, I also offer online sessions for clients across Scotland and beyond via Zoom. Please feel free to get in touch to find out more about how online therapy works.

I offer a free 15 minute initial Zoom call to give us a chance to meet and discuss starting therapy.

Some frequently asked questions

Why should I see a specialist?

Working with couple relationships is a very different specialist skill set from working with individuals. To be effective it needs to be worked with carefully with a qualified couple’s therapist. Psychosexual therapy and compulsive sexual behaviours therapy are also specialised areas that also take years of training and practice to allow therapists to ethically and knowledgably work with clients in these areas.

Is online therapy as good as in person therapy?

Research suggests that online therapy is therapeutically as effective as in person therapy. Ultimately, it comes down to personal choice, but in my experience, clients will often initially come to in person therapy in the beginning and ask to move online as it is more convenient for them.

There are many benefits to working online, for example:

• Many clients will choose online therapy from the get-go due to a preference for not having to travel to appointments.

• Parents can put their kids to bed and do a session in the evening or have someone look after their children in their house while they do a session in another room nearby.

• You can sit with your pet while you do therapy.

• You can make a comforting tea or coffee in your favourite mug and sit on your comfy sofa

How many sessions will it take?

I work weekly with short-term and long-term clients, but clients typically stay long-term and see it as an important investment in their relational health and wellbeing. Every relationship is different, but most have many layers. If you want to work through many dynamics this takes time, however if you have one or two issues to focus on and a set time period we can arrange short-term therapy. Clients often come for short term therapy and achieve their goals in 12-20 sessions, whereas other clients often stay for a year or more to work through deeper dynamics.

Do you take insurance?

I do not take clients though insurance – my practice is private pay only.

Can I/we attend therapy monthly?

I work with clients in an in-depth way that requires a weekly commitment. I would only see clients monthly at the very end of therapy for final check ins during our ending together. Generally, monthly therapy is unlikely to allow us to make the progress we need for you to have a good experience of the process and to get a positive outcome.

Can I come to therapy if I work shifts?

Absolutely! I often work with medics and other shift workers. Typically, sessions are usually at the same time each week. However, for inclusivity, I can accommodate flexibility to enable you to engage in therapy when you are on a rota system. We can work together to find times that work for both of us.

Is your practice LGBTQ+ inclusive?

Yes, absolutely! I enjoy working inclusively, affirmatively, and ethically with clients from all sexual orientations and gender identities. I have had specialist therapy training in working with LGBTQ+ relationships and keep up-to-date with training.

I welcome your enquiry and I will be delighted to hear from you!

Do you have experience of working with neurodiversity?

Yes, I have a wealth of experience of working with neurodiverse clients and welcome your enquiry. I also have specialist training in working with neurodiversity in couple relationships and sexual relationships.
